AN INTRODUCTION
Hello, my name is Joe. I love making video games and other things!
Video games have been my greatest passion for as long as I can remember. Combining my love for games with my urge to create things is something that utterly fulfils me, and the middle ground between the artistry of games, and the technical aspects, is where my passion burns. I'm a mature student, entering into the field of game development in my early 20s. Alongside my time as a developer, I have also worked in other industries, which has given me plenty of transferrable skills and experience in the world of work. I've just finished my BA in Game Design & Development at London South Bank University, where I received a First Class Honours degree, and specialised as a designer. This means I'm no stranger to prototyping mechanics, scoping out the size of projects, and making sure the design documentation covers every detail meticulously. I enjoy working closely with programmers, artists and other members of the team to execute the creative vision of a project, with my practice and knowledge of software helping me to bridge gaps between the various areas of game design.
I have primarily used Unity to make games in C#; however I do have prior experience using Unreal. I also have a love for 3D modelling, having used both Blender extensively, and Maya too. I've worked on group projects as both a producer and designer, and even contributed 3D art and sound design on many games.
In November 2021, I was hired by Rockstar Games to work as an Associate Content Designer at their Edinburgh studio, Rockstar North. So far I've loved the opportunity and thoroughly enjoy working at such an established studio, which has enabled me to continue to grow and learn as a designer.
As far as interests and hobbies go, music is a big part of my life; I've played guitar and bass for several years, having previously performed with a touring band across my native country of the UK. I'm a lover of history, film, football and rock climbing. I have a penchant for literature, and thoroughly enjoy a good book.
I'm also not too bad at Magic: The Gathering. Blue/Black deck for life.
I currently live in the wonderful city of Edinburgh and own far too many house plants.
